I’ve been away all week in Toronto with my pal Val…more on that later… and that’s why I haven’t been blogging. So, for now, a quick post.
Everybody knows Clint Eastwood played Harry Callahan in the Dirty Harry movies, but did you know Clint wasn’t the studio’s first pick? You’ll never guess who was their first choice. Go ahead, give it a shot.
Phyllis Diller?

That would have been kind of fun, though. And I’m pretty sure Phyllis may have partied with this guy in Vegas sometime.
Frank Sinatra…..I had to look it up, but I do actually remember hearing that some time ago……
Absolutely no fair. You’re not supposed to look stuff up, where the heck is the fun in that? Take a guess! Phyllis Diller was an excellent guess.
But right you are. Frank Sinatra was the first choice to play Harry Callahan in the Dirty Harry series, according to an article I read by Lee Child, author of the Jack Reacher series. I’ll post the link to that article next week. Great advice in that article from one of my favourite writers.
I think Dirty Harry and all of us are happy Frank didn’t take the part. Guess he insisted on doing things, ahem, his way.
